Salem Branch participates in multiple community  activities that promote equity and access for women and children with donations of time, energy and funds.           

Expanding Your Horizons

Members coordinate this one-day career conference the first Saturday in January for middle school girls. Each student selects four of 50 career workshops that highlight the use of science math and the educational path needed to secure that career. Willamette University, Chemeketa Community College and Salem Hospital provide crucial support to make the conference a success. Register at our homepage and look at www.expandingyourhorizons.org for the national perspective.

 

Mahonia Hall Tours

Salem branch members serve as tour guides at the governor's Tudor residence built in 1924 by Ellis Lawrence, founder of the University of Oregon School of Architecture. 533 Lincoln St S. To arrange a tour on a Wednesday afternoon for your group, contact Sally Hollemon rhollemon@comcast.net

Family Building Blocks

Branch fundraisers provide monetary support, and members volunteer at this center to prevent child abuse and teach parenting skills. www.familybuildingblocks.org

 

HOME Youth and Resource Center

Branch fundraisers provide monetary support to this daytime center for teens to have a safe haven and learn life and scholastic skills to succeed. www.homeyouthcenter.org

Midsummer Night's Musicale

Branch members love to throw this summer picnic party on the banks of Willamette University Mill Stream followed by a concert at Hudson Hall.  Funds are used for the projects highlighted on this page.

 

Salem Speaks UP!

Each December branch members volunteer to host this annual community discussion focused on human rights and discrimination experiences and issues.  Coalition members include Mano a Mano, NAACP, Humanist Association of Salem, Planned Parenthood, PFLAG, CAUSA, YWCA, Oregon Peace Works, and the City of Salem.  December 10, 2007 2-4 pm at United Methodist Church.

Salem Peace Lecture

Branch funds help secure a high profile speaker to address human rights issues each October. www.oregonpeaceworks.org

 

League of Women Voters Candidate Forum
